Andrew's Two-Month Update!

Dear Andrew,

You’re two months!  Wow!  It has been quite the month!  You have started smiling and roll over from front to back.  Big brother still loves you but has gotten a bit more attached to mom and dad which has made for some interesting weekends.  It feels like you have been with us for forever instead of just two months.

You experienced your first Thanksgiving holiday which was a success!  DD Nana rented a house literally right on the beach and all of us “Hesseltine’s” stayed there Wednesday night through Saturday.  You did really well sleeping in a new environment but mom and dad did horribly.  We had to share a room with you and it turns out that you are an extremely noisy sleeper.  You hum, grunt, toot and make all sorts of other sounds while you are sleeping.  I slept terribly in the room with you.  So, from now on.. no more sharing!

The beach was a little cool for you… you spent most of your time inside hanging out with DD Nana and your aunts.  Big Brother was all over the beach like white on rice.  He loved splashing in the water, running up and down the beach and didn’t mind freezing along the way.  Mom put you in the Ergo Baby carrier for a couple of hours and you stayed nice and toasty with her on the beach for a couple of hours.  Overall, you were wonderful.  You stuck to your schedule and were a happy baby.

You got to meet Aunt Stacy, Uncle Ryan, Cousin Asher and Grandma Kathleen this month, too!  You seem so tiny compared to Asher who is 5 months older than you.. but you’ll be sitting up in no time!  We went to the zoo and you were also a trooper at the zoo.  As long as you’re well fed and your tummy isn’t upset you are all smiles.

I’ll note it here first.. but you are starting to get a flat head like your big brother.  As much as I’ve tried to prevent it I’m afraid we’re heading down the flat head road with you, too.  The pediatrician commented on it as well…. She wasn’t concerned just yet but we will continue monitoring it.  Mom and dad have tried everything to keep it from going flat—we rotated your head every time we put you down to nap and you go on your tummy all the time!  I’m going to have to blame it on genetics I guess.  Dr. Kyle said it’s the laid back babies that always struggle with the flat heads and quite frankly you’re a good sleeper just like your brother.  That probably has something to do with it.  You sleep for 8-10 hours straight and then take multiple 1.5-2 hour naps a day.  I’ve started having you nap [supervised sleeping]] on your tummy to amp up our tummy time… so as of now you’re getting about 6ish hours of tummy time.  Mom and dad are so sorry if you end up getting a helmet… but luckily we have experience in this department and know it won’t bother you at all!  We will keep working on it until then.

Overall, you are a very happy baby.  I just switched formulas for you to see if that helps with all of your gassiness.  It’s supposed to digest a little bit easier so maybe you will grunt just a little bit less!  You like to lay under the play mat with the mobile and bat up at the toys hanging from it.  You are purposefully swinging your arms at the toys to make them move.  You’ve started putting some of your weight on your legs to stand up some, too.  Your head control is pretty good, also!  It’s almost all the way there--- you seem to favor turning your head to the right, so I’m working on making sure you turn your head left more, too!

We’re so glad you’re here Andrew and definitely make us feel complete!  We love you always and forever baby boy.  Here are some more updates for you:

  •  Sleep from about 8:30-7:30 with a wake up at the 4 o’clock hour to eat.  I tried dream feeding you to eliminate the 4 AM wake up call, but I can’t seem to get you to wake up enough to actually eat.  I might try again though.  But either way, I’m happy with your sleeping patterns!
  • Are awake for about 1-1.5 hours during each eat-wake-sleep cycle and eat every 3 hour
  • Eat 3-4oz of formula at each bottle feeding
  • Smile at momma, DD Nana and T-Pa!
  • Roll over from front to back—but we want to keep you on your front!
  • Bat at objects with your hands
  • Like watching big brother run around and jump on the trampoline
  • Like being in the Ergo baby carrier
  • Hate your car seat.  You scream bloody murder for some reason.
  • Weigh 12 lbs (63 percentile) and are 23.5 inches long (89 percentile)—you are getting a little chunky if I do say so myself!
  • Wear size 0-3 month clothes—newborn clothes are officially too small!
  • Wear size 1 diapers but you are approaching needing size 2 diapers!  You poop 1-2x a day.
  • Love to hear mom sing Silent Night to you and are doing great at putting yourself to sleep once mom calms you down with a couple of songs.

Uncle Ryan and cousin Asher!

You are inside that carrier!

You love your DD Nana!
